On June 7, 2013, The Feathertale Review No. 9 won gold for Best Single Issue at the National Magazine Awards in Toronto. Feathertale was the smallest magazine nominated at this year’s gala, so to win one of the evening’s most prestigious awards was an unexpected honour, something frequent contributor Cathal Kelly touched upon when he tweeted that watching Feathertale win an NMA was, financially speaking, “like your home movies winning an Oscar.”

Kelly, it should be noted, also won silver in the humour category for his story: “Feathertale man rewrites history, says his version ‘much better.’”

It took the combined efforts of 37 people to put this award-winning issue together. Feathertale would like to thank and congratulate each and every poet/artist/designer/writer who contributed their time and energy to making our ninth issue the best we’ve ever produced and (apparently) the best single issue of a magazine published in Canada in 2012. Our contributors include: Sarah Barmak, Jackie Bateman, Nicole Baute, Jeff Burney, Paul Carlucci, Scott Colby, Jonathan Danielson, Katie Daubs, Anna Della Zazzera, A.C. Diamanti, Tu Anh Dinh, Jack Dylan, Karen Gilmore, Brianna Goldberg, Ian Hanna, Christopher Kaeser, Cathal Kelly, Mike Kitchen, Erik Lambert, Benson Lee, Iain Marlow, Gavin McCarthy, Corina Milic, Kamila Mlynarczyk, Jacob Pacey, Brett Popplewell, Oleg Portnoy, Chantelle Rideout, Graham Roumieu, Pete Ryan, Jason Samilski, Kevin Scanlon, Sharis Shahmiryan, Maureen Shelleau, John Sifton, Marie-Eve Tessier-Collin, Lee Wilson and Allison Whalen.
